How do I apply registration for UMCEC Geo-Challenge 2021?
You can apply registration through scanning QR code at our official Facebook or Instagram page and Google Form link on the website.
What are the entry requirement?
You must be at least enroll in Diploma or Undergraduate program in any Polytechnics, Colleges or University.
How do I know about the university quota as only 3 teams is permitted ?
You can check the availability through:
a. The link provided in the registration form.
b. Website
Is there any selection process to disqualify team(s) of participants before entering the final round for presentation?
All teams will be given chance to do their presentation on the competition day.
Do I need to pay to register myself for this competition?
Yes, each team is required to pay RM50 for registration (non-refundable).
Is international polytechnic/undergraduate student of higher learning institutions in Malaysia eligible for this competition?
All Malaysian and international students from polytechnics/higher learning institutions (undergraduates) in Malaysia are welcomed to join.
How will the winner be decided?
The winner will be decided based on judging criteria which are 70% on the proposal and 30% on presentation.
How many of us required to do the presentation?
All members in the group can make the presentation as long as the time of the presentation doesn’t exceed 5 minutes.
Who should I contact during the competition day for inquiry?
You can contact the person in charge of your respective group.
What should be done if I am having an internet issue during the competition day?
If you are facing any internet or technical issue, please let the person in charge know earlier.
Will this competition be fully online?
This competition will be held fully online through the Microsoft Teams.
Can I do a pre-recorded video for the presentation?
Pre-recorded presentation is prohibited.
Can I use different software other than the one listed in the rule and regulation?
Yes, all kinds of software is allowed to be used as long as it is related to finding the solution.
What to consider in making the introduction video?
Duration: minimum 1 min, maximum 2 min

What is the required size and the file format of the poster?
The size of the poster is advisable to be in A3 size and pdf format.
Do the mentor of the team need to be in the introduction video?
It's optional.
Does the number of comments on the introduction video affect the mark of the popularity award?
No, we will only count the number of likes of the video posted by our official (UMCEC) page.
Does the mentor and the members of a team must be from the same institution?
Yes, the mentor and the members of a team should be from the same institution.
Does the participant need to remain the UMCEC 2021 Facebook profile frame until the competition day?
It is not necessary to remain BUT You MUST prove that you have added the UMCEC 2021 frame beforehand in any methods.
The competition circumstance is a "what if scenario" where the Highlands Tower has not yet collapsed due to slope failure, does this imply that in our technical report we follow this situation in a "story-telling" manner where we mention only the concerns on the slope and no mention of the actual failure should be made?
It has to be a "technical-telling" manner, for example, you can provide a framework, flowchart, etc. That’s right only mention the concern on the slope. Focuses more on prevention measures "Highland Towers is still standing, and in this competition, we are required to identify potential problems and recommend solutions regarding slope stability, based on given figures and tabulated data"
What if participant found others reason/factors causing slope failure from their literature findings that they wanted to take it as primary factors?
The information from the figures and tabulated data will be fixed towards the slope stability analysis. In simpler terms, please prioritize using the soil parameters and geometry provided. Participants are required to state main factors that cause the collapse of Highland Tower.
Is the participant allowed to change the angle of the slope as given?
No, please strictly follow the parameters given in the question.
What is the timeline of the tower for the participant to consider the solution?
It is when the tower is still existing.
Should participants focus on the slope analysis and neglect the seepage?
Yes, slope analysis should be the main concern of participants and, the seepage can be neglected or taken as an additional factor.
Can we have the details for the uphill of the slope?
Please check the description page provided. The participant can do their research if it is insufficient data for the participant’s solution.
What is the purpose of the video that the participant has to submit?
The video is a simple group introduction including the teammate's self-introduction. The video which has the most LIKE on FACEBOOK will be awarded the 'Best Popularity Award'.
Data and details about the underground water table for the slope will be provided?
No groundwater or any uphill slope information will be provided.
What kind of factors that we should prioritize to design our proposal/solution and how many solutions should we provide?
Participants are required to state main factors that cause the collapse of Highland Tower and they can only provide one solution based on their stated factors. Provided solution is suggested to solve the main factors that caused the collapse of Highland tower.
